One Sunday each month from 1pm to 6pm Alii Drive in Kona’s Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only outdoor marketplace that makes for a fun family-friendly day. Leashed dogs are welcome to stroll too!

Celebrating its 10th year, over 100 Kokua Kailua vendors gather once a month on Alii Drive, from Kailua Pier to Hualalai Road, to showcase shop local opportunities, entertainment and delicious munchies. Local artisans and crafters, musicians and friendly merchants welcome the crowd. There is no better place to spend a Sunday afternoon than strolling through the seaside village. Shop, dine and buy local at Kokua Kailua.

Hawaii Cycling Club offers Tue/Thu/Sat rides every week all year long. All are welcomed so come join us for a good workout.

HCC Saturday Morning Ride – Join HCC every Saturday morning, 7am at the Old Airport Playground Parking Lot. We head north up Queen Ka’ahumanu Hwy and turn back at various points- distance varies from 10 to 70+ miles depending on how far and fast you want to ride. Fast riders can enjoy a good paceline workout with members of the Hammerhead Race Team. There is usually a group going your pace and distance so don’t worry if your not a racer.

On Tuesdays everyone is invited to join the Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run and walk through Historic Kailua Village. Big Island Running Company coordinates the non-competitive, free weekly event that begins a their Alii Drive store location in the Coconut Grove Marketplace starting at 5pm.

Walk, run or stroll, just be sure to be there and have fun.

'Aha Aloha 'Ōlelo @ Hale Hālāwai

The ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo is a Hawaiian language festival featuring Hawaiian language competitions in different categories across different ages, live entertainment, food and merchandise vendors, a Keikiland area for kids and more. The amazing entertainment we have lined up for this year features multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning group Keauhou on Friday, January 25 at 6:00pm and also features Kumu Hula and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning Kealiʻi Reichel on Saturday, January 26 at 12:00pm.

This years event theme is “Ka Naʻi Aupuni.” This years program revolves around King Kamehameha I and his astonishing story of conquering an uniting the Hawaiian Islands. Speech, memorization, battles and music are the competition categories. Students across all grade levels from schools on different islands will compete, such as Pūnana Leo o Kona, Ke Kula ʻo ʻEhunuikaimalino, ʻAlo Kēhau o ka ʻĀina Mauna, Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo, Ka Pūnana Leo o Waiʻanae, Ka Papahana ʻo Māʻilikūkahi, Ke Kula ʻo Kamakau, as well as others.

Join us at Hale Hālāwai and enjoy the beautiful music of Hawaiʻis top performers and support the students at the forefront of the fight to revitalize and normalize Hawaiian language once again in Hawaiʻi.

Hawaiian Sunset Saturday @ Coconut Grove Marketplace

Residents, visitors and families of all ages are encouraged to mark their calendars for the last Saturday of every month and plan to attend the free Hawaiian Sunset Saturdays. This once a month community event celebrates Kona’s spectacular sunsets with live Hawaiian music and hula starting at 5:30 pm on the lawn at Coconut Grove Marketplace.

Everyone’s invited to bring lawn chairs, beach blankets and enjoy beautiful live Hawaiian music under the sunset sky. Lovely hula dance completes the evening. When the sun sets and the music is over, enjoy a stroll on Alii Drive, and check out the many food venues. Hawaiian Sunset Saturday happens on the last Saturday of very month.
